EMF Seminar "Measurements for certification of Base Station sites
Instructor: Matthias Wuschek
Location: Royal Olympic Hotel, Athanasiou Diakou 28-34, 117 43, Athens
Date: Monday 30/04/2018
Timetable: 09:00 – 17:00
Participant background: Basic knowledge on 2G/3G/4G field exposure measurements
Agenda:
Part 1: Theory
· Basic strategies for site certification (calculations versus measurements). Practical example: Situation in Germany / Switzerland.
· Determining safety distances around Base Station antennas by calculation (typical the first choice).
· Safety distance check by measurements (additional option, if calculations do not deliver a clear result).
· Brief repetition of GSM / UMTS / and LTE signal structure and the consequences for the measurements.
· Data of the site, which has to be delivered by the operator for performing the extrapolation of the measurement results to maximum transmitter power. A simple data table will be introduced, which can be used for the practical work.
Part 2: Practice
· Performing practical measurements at a real Base Station site with GSM / UMTS and LTE systems. Possible measurement location: A flat rooftop close to Base Station antennas with public access where rather high field strength values are present.
· Using the SRM-3006. Storing the results in the instrument memory.
· After returning to the training room: Evaluating the stored results with the SRM-TS software. Extrapolation to maximum transmitter power and summation using a simple Excel sheet.
· Additional topic (if the time allows): The European workers directive 2013/35 EU and its consequences for workers safety check around mobile phone Base Stations (and broadcast transmitter) antennas.
· Final discussion.
